What is AmieStreet?

AmieStreet is a website to discover new music.  If you’re one for being ahead of the curve on discovering new music, you get rewarded.  For less popular songs, downloads are really cheap or even free!  So discover new music quickly and don’t pay for them to legitimately download the MP3’s.  As songs become more popular the price of the song goes up.  Regardless its very easy that you’ll be able to purchase songs less than those of iTunes.

What you may not know about AmieStreet

AmieStreet has a great recommendation engine.  Easily import your iTunes library, Pandora playlist or Last.FM account and quickly discover new music based off of the music you are already listening too. So here’s a jumpstart to finding new music and download cheap and free MP3’s.

What is TheSixtyOne?

TheSixtyOne is a site to discover new music and share with others music you’ve discovered.  Gain scene credit points for the amount of music you listen to, recommend, and favorite.  If you think you know what the next best thing is in music, then show how well you really do know new music with TheSixtyOne.

What you may not know about TheSixtyOne

You can ‘bump’ or vote up a song to show that you really like the song, but your bumps are going to cost you, your scene points that is.  Less popular songs cost more to bump, but in return can increse your rewards if the song becomes more popular.  The idea is to make better decisions on what songs you vote on, by making you have to accumulate points to spend on things such as ‘bumping’ songs.

What is Purevolume?

PureVolume is a website  where bands and musical artists can promote and advertise themselves. Each artist or band has its own page that may include news, photos, upcoming shows, background/biographical information, contact information, and music for free listening and downloads. Over 400,000 artists[2] house such profiles on PureVolume, most of whom hover around the rock genres, particularly alternative rock, indie rock, and punk and its subgenres. (read more at Wikipedia)

What you may not know about Purevolume

Not only can you search for your favorite artists, you can browse for new upcoming artists, preview their music and determine if they belong on your “Favorites” list.  Furthermore, after creating a Purevolume account, you can add all of your favorite artists to your account and then get a feed of just your favorite artists upcoming concerts, CD release, new music videos and more.

What is Last.fm?

Last.fm is a social music community that keeps you in touch with your music using a music recommendation system called “Audioscrobbler”, Last.fm builds a detailed profile of each user’s musical taste by recording details of all the songs the user listens to, either on the streamed radio stations or on the user’s computer or some portable music devices. This information is transferred to Last.fm’s database (”scrobbled”) via a plugin installed into the user’s music player. The profile data is then displayed on the user’s profile page. The site offers numerous social networking features and can recommend and play artists similar to the user’s favourites. (Read more at Wikipedia)

What you may not know about Last.fm

Last.fm has a great piece of software for your computer that will recognize your favorite music player, plug in to it, and track the music you listen to.  Over time the music that Last.fm tracks will help determine new music that you are interested in.  Last.fm will compare each artist with other artists in the system based off of what users are listening to.  Example, say I listen to Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Hinder, another users listens to Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, and Seether.  Based off of Last.fm’s analysis, you can conclude that listeners of Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace like Seether and Hinder.  So now Last.fm can recommend me Seether and the other listener Hinder.  See how that works?  Want to discover new music based off of what you are listening to?  Download Last.fm’s audioscrobbler and discover new music.
